The majority of students in JCT's pre-academic program are from Haredi and Ethiopian communities. Many are married with families of their own to support and face considerable financial stress. Thus, in addition to challenging and intensive academic studies, many students face severe financial stresses putting them at high-risk of dropping out.

The majority of students in JCT's pre-academic program are from Haredi and Ethiopian communities. Many are married with families of their own to support and face considerable financial stress. Thus, in addition to challenging and intensive academic studies, many students face severe financial stresses putting them at high-risk of dropping out.

JCT's Mechina (pre-academic preparatory program) enables students who lack the necessary academic background to earn high school equivalency and become college-ready within 16 months. Students begin with a three-month pre-Mechina program in mathematics and English to assess their ability to study in a classroom environment and their academic aptitude.  Upon successful completion of the Pre-Mechina Program, students enter a full year of Mechina which includes intensive studies in math, English and physics in preparation for their academic studies. JCT’s Mechina Program provides the crucial gateway that enables underserved populations to enter academia.

Recognizing the potential impact of Mechina, JCT dedicates extensive efforts to ensuring students’ success.  The College strives to provide scholarships as well as living stipends to students in need.  JCT offers ongoing support throughout their degree, including tutoring, counselling, pre-exam preparation courses, CV writing and presentation workshops, an annual job placement conference, and guidance from the College’s job placement staff.  The program also offers academic assessment and psycho-didactic evaluations to those suffering from undiagnosed learning disabilities.  We believe that proper diagnosis can significantly impact students’ chances for success by providing the information necessary to properly address their needs.
